Your scariest or scary moment
« on: September 29, 2014, 09:06:38 PM »
I was biking on a bike trail this afternoon and what I always feared happened.

As I was coming to the end, I see from very far away a BIG dog with no owner, I said to myself I'm really scared of this BIG dog, where is his owner, what's going on? And then when I got like 200 ft. from that "dog" I see WOW its a black bear. BH he ran away from me.

not scariest as I didn't really know what was going on but last week my plane was a few feet from the runway, about to land and we shot right back up, seems there was already a plane on the runway :o

Happened 3 years ago. In short me and my wife went rafting in an isolated lake without life vests (I'm a lifeguard and wsi) . The water was gushing very very fast. Suddenly we hit a branch that was floating there and our rafting tube/boat busted and we were thrown deep under the water. We didnt know that the branch on top was a huge tree under the water. After getting some deep scratches and cuts i quickly freed myself. When i swam back up i saw my wife was not there!!!!
In the end i pulled her up and after being hospitalized for a week she was okay

Glad you are both OK. Sorry but I have to ask. What were you thinking not wearing Life vests?

Not sure why that would answer the question.

In the beginning the lake was not deep at all and was not moving fast.

Officially everyone must wear a life vest. But not knowing how deep and dangerous and Scarry the lake will become i thought worse case I'm a lifeguard... but didnt know that the water will take away my power.

This
On second thought that was more thrilling than scary, scary is when I am NOT in control.

That would have to be the time I drove from Detroit to Montreal through a huge snowstorm. I was driving most of the way and I must have been going not more than 30MPH. At one point someone took over but I saw she clearly didn't have too much experience with snow driving so I told her to pull over at the next exit so I could take over again. She decelerated too quickly and before I knew what was happening we swung wildly, first left and came within inches from the center barrier and then right, spun around and landed in a huge snow bank. Thank G-D the snow was soft so no one got hurt but the car was stuck inside until a tow truck came by.

On a trip to Montreal we went for a day trip to Mont Treblanc.  It's just over an hour away by car. The roads were empty, so I drove fast.  At some points, the road is a thin bridge with 2 (or was it 4?) lanes of traffic and guard rails high above the valley below.  At 75- 80 mph I had very bad visions of going over the side and crashing my whole family into the abyss.
On our recent trip to Montreal, my husband suggested we go to Mont Treblanc since 'last time we had so much fun there'.  I declined.
