I don't know about all hotels, but I did it at the Andaz in Maui.

No need to check in and out.
When you check in tell the hotel you have a few reservations and they will usually just let you stay in the same room the whole time.

is there a list of hotels somewhere on the forum, that have given ppl problem when using free nights out of a friends acct? (when friend doesnt show up- and guest is on reservation as "guest #2" ) i'm assuming there is usually no problem, but wanted to know if anyone's reported having a rough time w this at any specific high end properties?

I once had a minor issue with a Marriot in Prague. They told me they need the account holders passport before I check out. So to solve that issue I just never checked out and left the hotel.

funny I had a similar issue with IHG dubai. eventually I e-mailed them a copy of my passport and all was fine.

Staying at Park Hyatt NYC on mid August on free nights. If i want to get a suite, what's the chances that I can get one by giving the check in guy a 20?or should I call and see how f I can pay for an upgrade? My only experience was in Vegas once where I got an upgrade intl TheHotel by giving him a 20.

It's a five star nyc hotel money doesn't really help I would be surprised if it worked

Yes, but you'll get killed on the rate.

Is that confirmed? There t&c's seem to indicate that you can only use them in Caribbean ,US and Canada which , to me, sounds silly.

Clarification needed.

If by "gc" he meant gift card, you're right, as those cannot be used in HKG.

I assumed if he's asking that "gc" referred to gift check, which can be used abroad, but will be converted at hotel exchange rate.

Indeed needed clarification. Was unaware of how gift checks worked but assumed that even if anything worked overseas it will be converted into local currency first.
