I think they need to be used before the exp date, however if you book now then they will sometimes extend 30 days past the expiration date
i tried. i called them and the rep had problems with the booking. she then realized that i was trying to book for past the expiry date!

they've let us first extend the expiry date and then make the booking -- however the limit is usually 30 days beyond your exp date.

Main difference is that Zilara is adults only. Should focus more on the destination you're interested in going to.

I didn't show up for a free night award at Park Hyatt NY and got charged $675. Has anyone has success in getting this reversed?

Not at that Hyatt location but yes. Try calling the hotel.

Called to make a booking using points and anniversary night but they said no more award availability. I still see base rooms available at full price. Any chance of getting them to open a room for me? I'm diamond.

Yes. Not easy, but doable if the base room is really available.

not asking whether its possible or not: I've had many conflicting reports from both chase and hyatt, as to who would be the one to be able to extend sign up nights. bottom line, who would be the one to call? chase or hyatt?

Called Gold Passport and they opened it up for me. Wasn't too difficult; rep just asked her supervisor to make it available for point booking.

Interesting. Had a similar scenario and they wouldnt open it.
They claimed that the rooms available were not standard rooms even though the hotel website said they were.
Tried a few times and gave up

yep.
tried a few times.
the hotel was the Pier 66 in FLL
The website shows that a marina king and marina double are considered standard: http://pier66.hyatt.com/en/hotel/rooms/standard.html
Both the hotel and Diamond line said that the hotel considers only the limited view marina king/doubles to be standard with regard to points reservations ::)

I've booked more then 2 rooms online many times.
Could be the issue your having is, one of the nights are not available, so the website isn't letting you book it.
Try searching everyday separately to see if all nights are open.
Life is as good as you make it...
