Data point.
Not to scare everyone as I'm sure this account was the exception to the rule.
When I tried checking in they said that I can't check in without the AH and they will charge me rack rate. They said there's a note in the account to make sure he checks in. Otherwise the hotel won't get reimbursed from gold passport.
I begged/ negotiated to no avail. After an hr we made up that they will give me a reduced rack rate and if I have the points in MY account by the time I checked OUT then, they can use points, otherwise it'll be the rack rate.
After I checked in on those terms and the account holder called the hotel on my behalf they called me to say they will make a one time exception and honor this reservation.
Again I spoke to many people that didn't have this issue but YMMV.
i don't know what you said to them or how you checked in. But what you have to do is say yes the account holder is on his way his flight got delayed. There is nothing wrong with someone on the reservation checking in. Again I don't have experience with SUNs but I don't see why the hotel should treat it different than points bookings.

if i had to guess it is probably because the AH was asking questions of a hyatt rep during the booking process how to book for a friend and they put the note in the account.

it sounded like he was the one speaking to the reps which is never good either.

its not a scam. Hyatt allows a diamond to bring a guest of honor and enjoy the diamond status even without the member there.

It's plainly a scam (and this plainly wasn't a Guest of Honor situation). Let's be serious here.

i wasn't referring to his situation I was responding to you saying that people use it to gain status when they don't have status. Look at what I quoted.

P.S. yes technically what he did was a "scam" as you call it. But it's within the rules. The rules say that you can add an additional guest and that he could check in.

That is what this forum is about. It's about finding ways to travel better for a better price. If you keep having an issue with everything everybody here does that is not 100% straight then why are you even on this forum to begin with? Just to berate all the members? We have a way of how we do things here. As far as I'm concerned no one is breaking any laws. If you can't handle it please go read another forum. /end rant

It's not an "additional guest" if there's only one guest i.e., if the person with status has no intention of showing up. Again, let's be serious here.

Concession accepted.

I'm all for getting deals. I'm not for scamming companies in ways that inevitably result in devaluations for people who play by the rules.

I am staying in the Hyatt Regency Downtown Chicago tomorrow night.
They want to charge me $30 for an upper floor room.
Any tips on how to get one without the charge (I have no status with Hyatt)?

use someone's account who has status and make yourself an additional guest

Is there any reason why I would want to pick the Andaz Midtown over Park Hyatt? I've been to the Park Hyatt twice and it was beautiful but I'm curious if the Andaz is on par. I'm platinum so likely no suite upgrades.

If I make a cash reservation at a Hyatt property, do they charge the card now? Put a hold now?

Depends. C+P bookings for stays 2 months out, I have been charged immediately for.
