It's plainly a scam (and this plainly wasn't a Guest of Honor situation). Let's be serious here.
i wasn't referring to his situation I was responding to you saying that people use it to gain status when they don't have status. Look at what I quoted.

P.S. yes technically what he did was a "scam" as you call it. But it's within the rules. The rules say that you can add an additional guest and that he could check in.

That is what this forum is about. It's about finding ways to travel better for a better price. If you keep having an issue with everything everybody here does that is not 100% straight then why are you even on this forum to begin with? Just to berate all the members? We have a way of how we do things here. As far as I'm concerned no one is breaking any laws. If you can't handle it please go read another forum. /end rant

It's not an "additional guest" if there's only one guest — i.e., if the person with status has no intention of showing up. Again, let's be serious here.

Concession accepted.

I'm all for getting deals. I'm not for scamming companies in ways that inevitably result in devaluations for people who play by the rules.

I am staying in the Hyatt Regency Downtown Chicago tomorrow night.
They want to charge me $30 for an upper floor room.
Any tips on how to get one without the charge (I have no status with Hyatt)?

use someone's account who has status and make yourself an additional guest

Is there any reason why I would want to pick the Andaz Midtown over Park Hyatt? I've been to the Park Hyatt twice and it was beautiful but I'm curious if the Andaz is on par. I'm platinum so likely no suite upgrades.

If I make a cash reservation at a Hyatt property, do they charge the card now? Put a hold now?

was it at the GHK because that is the only hotel that wanted to charge before in a c and o booking. Never had it with lots of others

That was the one. They didn't at PH NY for C+P when I went so YMMV I guess.

I'm Hyatt Platinum (from CC). What are the odds I could be granted a 4pm, or maybe even 3pm, checkout (instead of the usual 2pm)?

could be a better value depending on the category. Also if you need stay credit you will only get it with c and p and not all points. Finally  until the end of the month you cannot use a DSU on all points bookings only on cash and c and p.
