Does anyone have experience when booking an award stay for another person and adding them as a guest, does the account holder have to be by check in?
depends on the hotel

no my account was used. I added him as a guest and he checked in. They didn't give him issues when he checked in.

When he checked in, did he say your name as well or only his?

I am trying to book a Hyatt Ziva with points and they told me I can only book with points if there is a standard room available and they only have an upgraded room available for my dates.

Will a Globalist that gets a confirmed upgrade or with a DSU be able to book an upgraded room with points?

TIA

Hyatt cracking down on second guest option?
http://frequentmiler.boardingarea.com/2018/03/02/hyatt-cracks-down-on-second-guest-approach-to-sharing-status/

This is obviously annoying, but I'm interested to see how it plays out considering...

1) It seems hard for them to prove the main guest never showed up (are they going to review security footage for each complaint?)
2) Ultimately removing the ability for a second guest to check in would be terrible customer service. I would imagine the vast majority of second guest check-ins are from people actually staying together.

they can allow second guest to check in but not extend benefits until AH shows up.

They could sense a pattern if someone has many different 2nd guests check in and they rarely do personally.

I booked a room at the Hyatt Regency Etoile in Paris using category 1-4 cert.

I have a club upgrade cert but they won't allow me to use it since I used an anniversary night cert to book.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
