Every bank has a different policy.

Chase has some rules, but they don't enforce them. It is widely believed that you can open a new Chase card 30 days after closing out the old one, but if it's an airline-branded card you MUST use a brand new mileage number (from UA, BA etc.) when you apply or you will not get the miles.

Barclays doesn't have any guidelines. You will be approved or denied randomly or at the behest of a recon rep. It is definitely recommended to wait a while.

Amex business cards require a full 12 month period from when you CLOSE the existing card. Amex consumer cards are officially one bonus per lifetime, but a small minority of people have reported getting bonuses anyway.

Thank you for the detailed response. When you say to wait a while with Barclays are you suggestion to wait even more then 12 months or that sounds safe enough

12 months is plenty of time to wait IMHO.

And I know some who have not, including myself and my wife... thus the reason for my surmise that it's entirely random.
