What's my best move for 2 major purchases???
« on: September 30, 2014, 07:10:05 PM »
Hey All,

My company is about to make 2 purchases of about $45k each and are letting me put it on my card!

So what card/s should I sign up for to maximize my earnings??? It is a b2b purchase so don't think it qualifies for any 5x points with Chase....

Sorry if this info is out there somewhere, but it's been FOREVER since I have been on the forums and forgot my way around and need a pretty quick solution....THANKS!

You dont have any old CC? A new card and right away swiping 45k is not the sweetest idea.
You can say what you think when you think what you say.

Why what do you mean? Can't I just tell them to expect a big purchase soon? Great credit history

I would suggest only putting these purchases on charge cards.

Additionally, if you do not spend that amount monthly, good luck having those charges go thru on a new card.

Why would you suggest the charge cards over regular cc's?

Open new Ink cards.  There's one with a 70K bonus.  If the business has an account with Chase, after approval, tell them about an upcoming large  purchase.

A charge card has no credit limit, so 45K with a good income will pass more easily.  But you have to pay off a charge card right away.

Only the Plus, which is a credit card, has the 70k bonus.

Just my two cents:

The total charge here is 90k, so at most you will be getting 90k points. At best, that's worth around $1400.

But, here is what you need to take into consideration:

  • If you will be using a consumer credit card, this can easily tank your credit score for a few months, especially if this uses up a majority of your total credit
  • If it's Amex or Chase, this can trigger a FR or an AA
  • You best be absolutely certain that your company will pay you back, and on time.
I don't know what your monthly spending patterns are, but if it's not in the high thousands, then I recommend not doing this. 90k points can be easily had by opening an Ink Plus and Ink Bold or Sapphire card.

But opening 2 Ink cards AND charging 45K on each will give 90K + 100-120K bonus points.  Talk to Chase after the card is opened to get 'preapproval' for such large spending. (Is it able to be spread out over a few months?)

Be SURE that they can - not just want to - pay you back PROMPTLY!

-0.5 He can avoid getting his credit score lowered by paying off right away - before the statement closes.

please do yourself a favor & make sure you get the $ up front. I dont know the nature of the business youre in but please just make sure you feel comfortable with your decision as c"v if you lose $90k over 90,000 points you will never forgive yourself..

Personally the United club card is ideal to use but I dont know your credit history & lines

What's the advantage of that?
1.5 ppd   on $90K = 135K pts.

IF he can get a new Ink Plus with a 70K signup bonus,  90K spend + 70K bonus = 160K pts.

Will the club card be easier to set up such a large spend on?
