If you have an hp 8610 printer DO NOT upgrade yet.

To save yourself frustration, don't upgrade to Win10 yet. Too many issues.

To upgrade to Windows 10:

Quote
GXN is a small utility that helps you upgrade your current Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Preview installation to Windows 10 RTM without any waiting or reservation.

This tool provides a few enhancements over the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. As an example, GXN is able to identify and clean up temporary files from previous failed installation attempts, thus lowering the chance of setup not working significantly. GXN will continue receiving updates for the app itself and will always provide the most up-to-date copy of Windows 10 Microsoft offers.

These are the following prerequisites you need for GXN to work properly:

.NET Framework 4.5
Windows 7 or newer
An active internet connection
Administrator rights
Please report any bugs you've found using DMs on Twitter, @Whistler4Ever.

If you want to install Windows 10 on a computer that does not have an internet connection, use this:

Slightly. Not enough to upgrade for that alone.

Your right to not be tracked/keylogged in all cases, and software/driver incompatibilities in some cases.

You really think Microsoft is key logging you? Software and drivers in 99% of cases you should be good besides enterprise.

"A blank USB or DVD (and DVD burner) with at least 4 GB of space if you want to create media. We recommend using a blank USB or blank DVD, because any content on it will be deleted."(from Microsoft site)
does this mean I need to move all my media onto USB's manually bc it wont transfer safely during the switch on its own?
nothings impossible- the word itself says Im possible

They recommend backing up all of your data to an external drive in the rare case that it may be lost during the switch. But again, cases/chances are very rare. What they mean in the quote you mentioned is that the media you will use to install the software should contain only the windows 10 software and nothing else; because anything else you will lose.

Any technicians out there please CMIIW.

Correct I've done a bunch of upgrades and never lost data
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I'm upgrading my laptop from Windows 7, and it's stuck at 13% (46% of "copying files"). Any ideas?

It's been at that point for over 2 hours. Should I just let it keep going?

Yes. It can take a really long time on some systems.

+1

It is pretty long, but I'd still suggest to give it the chance. You never know what damage can be done if you interrupt.
