If you have an hp 8610 printer DO NOT upgrade yet.

To save yourself frustration, don't upgrade to Win10 yet. Too many issues.

To upgrade to Windows 10:

Quote
GXN is a small utility that helps you upgrade your current Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Preview installation to Windows 10 RTM without any waiting or reservation.

This tool provides a few enhancements over the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. As an example, GXN is able to identify and clean up temporary files from previous failed installation attempts, thus lowering the chance of setup not working significantly. GXN will continue receiving updates for the app itself and will always provide the most up-to-date copy of Windows 10 Microsoft offers.

These are the following prerequisites you need for GXN to work properly:

.NET Framework 4.5
Windows 7 or newer
An active internet connection
Administrator rights
Please report any bugs you've found using DMs on Twitter, @Whistler4Ever.

If you want to install Windows 10 on a computer that does not have an internet connection, use this:

My Win 7 Home PC x64 can't update to Win 10, it just shows updating and updating from day to day..... :'(
Might be a security conflict,  had that with a Lenovo desktop,  until I uninstalled their rescue and recovery software,  and IIRC had to remove the partition as well

Updated to Win10 when it came out and had an issue with putting the PC to sleep (would effectively turn off when put to sleep).

Updated to new release and I'm pretty sure the issue was resolved.

I tried licensing after the major update with a generic dell oem key and it wouldn't license
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

sorry i wasnt clear, couldn't talk then
build 10586.0 had that issue.  i think .14 (or .16 i dont remember atm, changes to version 1603) fixes it. so if you skip key entering during setup, and put key in after update, it should work.
you are correct though, 1511 (th2) clean install initial key activation is broken.

I'm  a bit confused, but IIRC I was only able to activate a computer that came with with a windows 8 pro key but not with the generic dell oem windows 7 key

Since I've upgraded my HP laptop (a few months ago) I've had this problem where sometimes if I log off, I can't log back in. I can type my password, but can't press Enter. Even on the osk I can't click enter, and I end up having to restart.

Anyone else have this?

Yes the only way around it to set up a 4 digit pin (when you use a pin you have to push enter)

I guess
Okay, I'm not sure how secure a pin is, but I set it up for now.
Thanks!

Honestly, I don't see any advantages of the PIN over a regular password, only it's shorter and thus easier to remember (and hack  :-X).

The only difference I know is that the password is universal to wherever you log into your MS account and you can therefore change the password to your PC even without actually being on it (like in the event you forget it and you're locked out), whereas the PIN is unique to your computer.

In some ways its more secure as its local to your PC. Plus its 4 digits and then it auto logs you in. A password is the password plus the enter button.

Why is local to PC more secure?
