If you have an hp 8610 printer DO NOT upgrade yet.

To save yourself frustration, don't upgrade to Win10 yet. Too many issues.

To upgrade to Windows 10:
http://msft.gq/gxn/

Quote
GXN is a small utility that helps you upgrade your current Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Preview installation to Windows 10 RTM without any waiting or reservation.

This tool provides a few enhancements over the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. As an example, GXN is able to identify and clean up temporary files from previous failed installation attempts, thus lowering the chance of setup not working significantly. GXN will continue receiving updates for the app itself and will always provide the most up-to-date copy of Windows 10 Microsoft offers.

These are the following prerequisites you need for GXN to work properly:

.NET Framework 4.5
Windows 7 or newer
An active internet connection
Administrator rights
Please report any bugs you've found using DMs on Twitter, @Whistler4Ever.

If you want to install Windows 10 on a computer that does not have an internet connection, use this:

Open "Control Panel", go to "Appearance and Personalization", click on "Change screen saver", under Screen saver there is an option to wait for "_" minutes, remove the check from "on resume, display logon screen".

Hope that helps.

Can also be related to file permission issues.  (i read somewhere that SYSTEM needs to have permissions on the folders you want search to pick up on).

BTW, check out: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/search_my_files.html  (and obviously everything/listary)

Log in with fingerprints and open an administrator command prompt (which can be done with the fingerprints if you need to enter a password for that) and run the following command:
Code: [Select]
net user churnbabychurn 1234567Where "churnbabychurn" is your username and "1234567" is the new password for the account. (well, don't use this one...)

Try running Windows Update until no updates left.  Then, download wumt ( https://goo.gl/F3z3xo ), search for updates, and install any available updates (especially if you see one for wifi).
It worked, then more updates came :'(

And computer restarted  ???

Is there no way to permanently disable windows update?

Using that same program, bottom left, dropdown menu, choose "Disabled".

I had this recently with an update that kept failing. I searched for the update number and downloaded the manual update for it and installed it manually. This solved the problem.

Well then, you can run this in cmd (as admin):

Code: [Select]
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Block Windows Update" dir=Out action=Block program="C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe" protocol=TCP remoteport=80,443It will permanently stop updates until you remove the firewall rule.  You can remove it by running this:
Code: [Select]
netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name="Block Windows Update"

Or, to still do updates, but only when you want:

After about a week the issue returned with the same update trying to install over and over. I downloaded the installer again and it said that it was already installed but Windows update was saying it failed. I searched for the update and error code and saw an answer from Microsoft about the issue. I follwed their instructions and it now seems to be better.

Spent hours on this, finally got a hold of someone from microsft and he told me there is an issue with the activation server and honestly I didn't believe him, I felt something like that would be well know and I just found this:

Update: Microsoft officially and finally confirmed it: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-suddenly-deactivated/fe9a4ecf-2e2a-491d-a43e-b010c316d1c4
