If you have an hp 8610 printer DO NOT upgrade yet.

To save yourself frustration, don't upgrade to Win10 yet. Too many issues.

To upgrade to Windows 10:

Quote
GXN is a small utility that helps you upgrade your current Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Preview installation to Windows 10 RTM without any waiting or reservation.

This tool provides a few enhancements over the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. As an example, GXN is able to identify and clean up temporary files from previous failed installation attempts, thus lowering the chance of setup not working significantly. GXN will continue receiving updates for the app itself and will always provide the most up-to-date copy of Windows 10 Microsoft offers.

These are the following prerequisites you need for GXN to work properly:

.NET Framework 4.5
Windows 7 or newer
An active internet connection
Administrator rights
Please report any bugs you've found using DMs on Twitter, @Whistler4Ever.

If you want to install Windows 10 on a computer that does not have an internet connection, use this:

I assume you mean incompatible...
New browser (edge), and cortana (similar to siri). I personally will probably wait a few weeks before upgrading my main work computer, so I can verify in a virtual machine that there aren't any major bugs/incompatibilities with the software/drivers that I use.
Do that...

They always find tons of bugs when its released even after so many people are using it
They never had 4 million ppl beta testing it.

If you are not eligible for free Windows 10 upgrade (Vista and xp users) you can become windows 10 beta tester and you will get the final version free and activated

This is huge. That means that anyone with basically any computer (even running Windows XP) get's windows 10 for free! Of course it would have to meet the system requirements, but they're pretty low. This is also great for those of us who build our own systems, you won't have any OS expense assuming you build before July 29th.

Check the newest news online, Microsoft changed the wording. Only if you have a qualifying version of windows 7 or 8 you will be able to get it.

I've been using the Windows 10 preview, and I've got to say that it is pretty awesome. Microsoft's new Internet browser is really fast to.

My friend just got a new computer - windows 8. Does it pay to wait a couple of days before installing programs and copying over files?

thanks

nice to hear!
so my Q is if we'll have to recopy files and reinstall programs when we upgrade.
I guess the biggest time-investment is installing MS Office and setting up outlook (copying over the old file).

I really doubt that they would make everybody that already has windows 8 go through that....
