If you have an hp 8610 printer DO NOT upgrade yet.

To save yourself frustration, don't upgrade to Win10 yet. Too many issues.

To upgrade to Windows 10:

Quote
GXN is a small utility that helps you upgrade your current Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Preview installation to Windows 10 RTM without any waiting or reservation.

This tool provides a few enhancements over the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. As an example, GXN is able to identify and clean up temporary files from previous failed installation attempts, thus lowering the chance of setup not working significantly. GXN will continue receiving updates for the app itself and will always provide the most up-to-date copy of Windows 10 Microsoft offers.

These are the following prerequisites you need for GXN to work properly:

.NET Framework 4.5
Windows 7 or newer
An active internet connection
Administrator rights
Please report any bugs you've found using DMs on Twitter, @Whistler4Ever.

If you want to install Windows 10 on a computer that does not have an internet connection, use this:

Just wondering, I reserved a windows 10 upgrade and it was supposed to download today. It doesn't seem to have downloaded. Can it be that it did not download, or it did and I'm just missing something?
Check if your computer has a (hidden/system) folder - C:\$Windows.~BT
If it does, right-click on it and hit properties - and tell me what size it is.

how long does it take for it to start downloading?
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

If you reserved last week or earlier, it should've downloaded by now.  Although the actual upgrade may not kick in for days or weeks.
What does it show when you click that GWX icon (windows flag) of win10 reg?

Your upgrade is reserved!

there's nothing you need to do now. you'll get a notification on your pc or tablet when windows 10 is ready to install

well if you want to jumpstart it just download the tool:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

download the tool, and it gives you a choice to either upgrade current pc, or download ISO/makeusb for another pc

but first, did you check for that folder $Windows.~BT?  what size is it?

I reserved quite a while ago, at least a month or two.

Below is a screenshot of the properties of the $Windows.~BT hidden folder.

ETA: This doesn't seem to be it, though. This file was created in April of 2014, which seems too early for Windows 10.

I actually lost the "Windows 10" icon from my computer. This morning it was still there, and when I clicked on it it said that I have it reserved. Later in the afternoon it disappeared and I can't find it even with a search.

Nope. For some reason I'm getting an error message when the computer turns on, something about an application not being able to run, but I don't see anything missing (so maybe it was something that I used to use and just never uninstalled).

Why doesn't your friend just ask, and say that he's asking for a friend?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.
