There are a few lost and found web sites, but something local (if you know which area) might yield better results. Did you lose or find? Where?

Here's a site I one used when I lost something but I never got a response. http://www.hashovasavaida.com/
If you think you know what possible areas it was lost in, try posting in the nearby shuls.

Ask askan.org to send out a tweet about it. I've seen it done before, often with good results.

@zevi...Excellent idea!  Add this to my list of suggestions for you.  I would put in there 'Passaic' and 'street name' to catch the right people's eyes.

I don't know if this is relevant specifically to you, but a homeless man approached me in Port Authority in NY last Thursday and asked me how much a pair of tefillin were worth.  When I attempted to dig deeper, he claimed that he had found "something" on the train and wanted to know what to do with them.  I could not get him to actually show me any tefillin, but there definitely were what looked liked retzuos coming out of his bag.  I tried to look and see where he was going, but he got suspicious and confronted me.  The PA authority police said that they would keep an eye out for him, as this fell under the rubric of potential sale of stolen goods.

When my uncle was approached in Port Authority and asked to buy teffillin for a few hundred bucks, he opened the bag, opened the tefillin, showed the guy he had an incomplete set. He had the head and only one of the arms. Was missing the other arm.

Bought it for 3 or 5 dollars and was able to locate and return it to the owner.

@Zevi Dont know if they were found yet, but in case they werent, you should definitely post on the DD facebook page as well as the other groups such as flatbush craigslist and lookin for. I think the facebook groups have a larger audience than the forum.

Same here, I've heard the story as part of a shmuz one time, but i thought it was just one of 'those' stories.

True story. He worked right by port authority so often dealt with these people.

They belonged to a bochur from Lakewood btw.

I actually remember him saying that he just told the guy he that theyre not really worth anything. That they cost like 10 bucks new and bought for like 5 bucks. But my brother swears that it was the missing other arm story.

Since that uncle is no longer alive, I guess we'll never know....

....unless of course I ask my cousin. Or my aunt.
