Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

about to hit $20k on my total load for the year.

would someone mind explaining the consquences of getting a 1099 from them if i go over 20k?

Can you just simply show/keep receipts of deposits so there are no tax consequences?

TIA
Did you do 200 transactions ?

I had a strange problem when I tried to load my redcard with VGCs today with the new system. The CSR forgot to key in the $200 for a split transaction and it caused that VGC to error out at the end. The VGC subsequently didn't work, showing an error to the CSR after I tried a new load transaction with it, coming up with an error to call the number on the debit card. Anyone experience this before with the new system?

I think this is what happened to me! Go back a page or 2 to see my story. I ended up calling up one vanilla and having them send me a new gc.

I have no idea. When I called one vanilla they said that everything looked fine on their end and that it should work. I told them I tried making a regular debit purchase but it didn't work and that I think the card is defective so they said they will send me a new card. It works out for me because I won't be near a target to load in th the next few days anyway. You can always try another target if that's an option.

If the card was charged and then the charge reversed, it's possible they put a block on the card. I had this happen to me with a mc gc and was told it will fall off in 3 days (not at target). When I called they said these cards are not designed for that so it looks suspicious. WIth meta vgc I think you can call in and they will remove it.

Thanks! It definitely seemed like a lock...just didn't know if it was permanent.  I'll putpac and see what happens.

If you can't make it to a Target, Serve may be better.

There appears to be a system-wide issue with Bancorp (issuer of Vanillas).  Vanilla GC purchases are not activating correctly right now (e.g., CVS receipts printing out that activation will occur within 24 hours instead of just showing "Activated") and cards that were properly activated beforehand appear not to be usable at this time.  Data points starting to come in on FT Redcard 2015 thread.
