Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

K8 x2

And some reports have been that if the system was just installed it takes 24 hours to start loading. More likely though it was the CSR not knowing what they were doing.

Anyone still see the old system around? Every Target I've been to in the last few days is on the new system.

Just had my first encounter with the new system and honestly it took maybe 20% longer. The wait betwean screens was maybe 2 or 3 seconds,  and there was one extra screen to select debit when the old system defaults to debit. Very smooth and painless and quick.

Has anybody tried making a real purchase with RB but with insufficient funds? Does it draw from the debit card, even if you've exceeded the $1000 monthly loading balance?

I also just had my first encounter. The CSR at the cust service desk mentioned they just got a new system and it wasn't too bad. A little confusion at first, but we figured it out. She even turned the screen toward me to show that it asked the customer to swipe RB (instead of her), but I don't remember step-by-step of what happened. I know after she entered K8, K8, she had to enter the total load amount ($1000), then the amount of each load ($500) before I made my first swipe. When asked if I was loading the full amount, I entered "yes" (other people have entered "no"). She then entered $500 for the 2nd load and I repeated the process.

One of the wikis I've read stated that the CSR enters $500 AFTER I swipe my GC. That wasn't my experience yesterday. She definitely entered $500 before my first swipe.

There are two different ways to do it. CSR-initiated split tender, they enter the $500 and you say "yes" to full amount. If you're doing split tender on your end, after they enter the total $1000, you swipe first card, say no, then tell them the partial amount to enter.

I see. I did the first method, which seemed a little clunky. I can imagine some CSR having trouble with it. If you've tried both, do you think the second method is easier?

No, because the second method makes something appear on the CSR's screen that suggests the transaction has been "cancelled". I've had a CSR chastise me for "cancelling" the transaction when she just didn't understand the process.

I had a problem with a load that was done in July and it has now finally been cleared up and the money was added to my account in August.  Does anyone know if this will subtracted from the amount that I'm allowed to load in August?

Try to load, if it doesn't work then you are over the limit.
