Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Or maybe check online and see the date that it officially went through?

Went through in August

I would have but I was scared that it would take the money off the gc and then I would have to go through this whole mess again, trying to get the money ack.
IINM when you're over the limit you won't even get to the point of swiping. I could be wrong though.

Even if you are able to swipe, it won't take the money off.

I accidentally grabbed the wrong redcard a few weeks ago and i couldn't load.

When I realized why, I just went right back and loaded the correct card with the same "debit".

+1
Even though I was sure I wasn't. I even called and they said I finished for the month. Oops!

Just went to Target and when the swiped my RC, the computer said that they can't reload my card. I know I'm not over the limit for the month, and someone else there had the same problem so wasn't a problem with my card. I've also been there since they changed the system and was able to load. Anyone else experiencing issues today?

A few weeks ago all targets had hiccups and no one could load for about 12 hours or so.Good luck finding it in the thread, was definitely discussed here and on FT.
I'm going to my local target, not monument road.

sorry but i can't read all the pages. my friend is at Target (i'm in NY) and needs to know this info ASAP.
in the wiki it says:
2) DO NOT REGISTER THE RED CARD ONLINE BEFORE YOU FIRST LOAD/ ACTIVATE IT IN THE STORE

later on it says:
3) Once it is ACTIVE, you will need to REGISTER it.   You do that from your computer. All you need for this step is the temporary card. You do not need the information that was entered when activating the card.

my friend already activated it and put in $1. what do i do next? he's waiting in Target for an answer...

If he put $1 on it, means he activated it and did the first load.

So the next step is to register it online. Then you'll get a permanent card in the mail.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

I had a problem with a load that was done in July and it has now finally been cleared up and the money was added to my account in August.  Does anyone know if this will subtracted from the amount that I'm allowed to load in August?
What does it mean when "people have a problem with a load"? It's been mentioned in this thread a few times, but what exactly happens? The reason I ask is because I don't double check once I load a card to make sure the money is there, I just assume it is. Am I trusting redcard/amex too much? Can the transaction really go through on my end, yet the money doesn't get added to the redcard?

Look at the receipt.

Look at the receipt.
That's exactly my question. I always do look at the receipt and it shows 1k debited and added. Is it possible that my balance stays the same? (Start out with $8500 let's say, now it shows debited 1k, can my balance stay @ $8500?- is that the issue people are having?) The reason I'm second guessing myself is cuz I don't always know the balance starting out.

Possible issues loading Target Redbird (repaid REDcard)
« Reply #10819 on: August 27, 2015, 06:01:18 PM »

Every time you load make sure that:

1) The Target receipt reflects the load/transaction and the new balance. If you do multiple loads at once look at all receipts.

2) Within minutes you received the automated email from REDcard confirming the loading transaction.

If you want to double-check, after an hour or so login to Redbird online to verify the load transaction is still there, shouldn't have to do this every time (I don't).

If there's issues loading Redbird, they're usually one of these two types:

a) REDcard network issue: Either the load won't go through (won't show on receipt or online) or it won't stay, meaning it will instantly show online a +$500 (for instance) and a -$500 loading reversal. Many of us had the load reversal back in late Feb - early March (2015) when Redbird was having issues. It was corrected manually by Amex reps, it took some time and one or several calls.

b) Gift card network issue: The money won't go to Redbird, it might debit from the gift card and auto-credit back to it in a few hours.

Either way keep all receipts for at least a month to be sure, this way you don't have to double check each transaction. Also keep the gift cards and the gift card package showing the bar code (if Vanilla) for at least a month. You can get your money back if you have both.

P.S. If you need to buy the Redbird online you can do so instantly at www.NoonRadar.com
