Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Well my old faithful target just told me only bank cards and only 1K per day. Seems i'm not the only one with issues. I'll be heading out to 2 other targets in my area in the next week to try it out. Many reports on FT are that it's working, but according to http://www.pointchaser.com/my-week-in-manufactured-spending-redbirds-and-false-alarms/ there have been some new patterns going down.

Last time i went to my target in the am the girl behind the counter did not seem pleased to be doing it. I didn't leave with a good feeling (i only did 2500).  Should have just gone at night with the ones who pride themselves on doing 3 registers at once.

I went into target this morning and they told me that they are all out of the prepaid redcards and won't be getting anymore.  I asked why and they told me that it is being discontinued.  It is a target listed on the website as having the prepaid one.

Has anyone else heard this?

In my target, with the new system, the cashiers cannot access the button to load the RC. The workaround that they use, is that they swipe some gum or something handy, which "opens up" the register, and from there they can load the RC (probably Dan taught them that!).
Would K8 K8 work without this gum trick?

ETA:
answer from the FT Wiki

Quote
1) The cashier presses the Extras/K8 option on their screen and then presses K8 again. If they don’t see Extras or K8 on their screen (it depends on their login rights), they can scan an item for purchase and K8 will come up. Whether you purchase that item or the cashier voids it, K8 remains on the screen for them to press and continue with loading Redbird.

This morning it did not prompt me to select DC or CC, went right to entering the PIN.

When I went on 10/1 and 10/2, I did get the debit/credit option.  I asked the CSR what would happen if I tried credit and he said it would deny/fail. But he/they continue to smile and allow full loading. B"H.

Just came back from Target and had no issues. Girl behind the counter made sure to read out all the different types of payment that aren't allowed (GC included) and then I just swiped away anyways  ;D

I beleive he was just saying that they didn't stop him, even though he basically told them he was using a gift card which can be processed as either one.

The GC she was referring to was a Target GC.

I'm just wondering why they have the options DC OR CC at all?

It's probably just the standard option that the system always gives for any transaction.

Sorry. No, I didn't load with a CC. Didn't even try.  Didn't mean to mislead anyone.
