Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

You have to fax ur contact info copy of card  and ur id to target they will register the card for you
to that specific store?  I called up target costumer service and they told me that they can't register it unless I send in a receipt of purchase. Which I don't have!

So how does the FT trick work?
After the cashier punches in $1000, you just hand them your redcard and ask them to swipe it again?

Yup. When they tell you to pay, just ask them to swipe your card again. Just did it on 2 cards, at a cashier, with no problems.

She asked me if I was loading the card for a gift...

I just tried activating an inactive Redcard at a second Target and it didn't work.  I'm starting to think that relocated Redcards can no longer be activated at not participating locations.  Has anyone successfully activated a no-fee Redcard at a non-participating location recently?

I just scan my VGC as credit she asks for the 4 numbers, then says i owe 800. Rinse, repeat.

As an aside, and maybe i am doing it wrong, but I have had no luck using them as debit. When I choose to put the whole transaction on the card it says insufficient funds or delined, when I choose to split the transaction it says processing and doesn't do anything. I have no patience to wait too long and I just cancel and redo as credit. Anyone else have this issue using as debit?
P.S. I use the last 4 of the card as the pin.

so you first tell her to load 1000 and after swiping one GC it says you still owe 800?
