Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Im still amazed that someone upthread justified taking a $5 unactivated card without paying. If its $5 how do you take it??? Activated or not they want you to pay for it. It may not ring when you leave the store but its theft IMHO. Am I missing something?
You pay the $5 when you activate it. It doesn't matter which store you do it in. They don't lose any money.

This is really for the ethical thread. However, I asked my LOR about taking VR from CVS and I was told that I cant. Its causing someone else to re-order and re-stack when I'm not making the purchase in that store. To each his own I guess.

Idk but in the stores I've been to where they sell them for $5 they wouldnt let you walk out with it. And if that is a justified answer rather than the real answer the current cards we are talking about are fried and they did lose money. So is it theft?

Its not for the ethical thread. Its a very practical question. Are you aiding and abetting theft or in possession of stolen property when you know that it wasnt paid for and cant be activated in other stores?

Anyone know if you can activate  at City Targets or does it have to be a regular Target?

I've been to stores where there's no fee and they didn't let me take. It has nothing to do with the fee.
No one would take if they knew that those are going to get fried. You can't call it theft if no one else had any problems activating them (and paying the fee). You're blaming them for something they couldn't have known.

Is it a problem activating in any location that doesn't sell them or only specific stores?  Has anyone been able to activate in a store that doesn't sell them lately?

i'm just trying to wrap my head around how one would take something that is marked $5 out of a store and say "oh, I'll pay for it when i activate it elsewhere". If any item has a price marked on it, why would it even dawn on me to take it without paying? Can i take anything else out of the store thats marked with a price and say I'll pay for it elsewhere? It just doesnt make sense. The card costs $5, not the activation. Try to take a chocolate bar right under the RedCard display and see if they let you pay for it when you activate it.  Can you take an Amex GC, MC or VGC without activating it?

So I switched to T-Mobile and got a Visa Debit card for the ETF reimbursement from Verizon for $900. It's a T-mobile Visa debit card that has my name on it. I can create a PIN for it but since it's a promotional card (it says promotional on it) I can't access the funds via an ATM. Per the Wiki, do you think this would count as a bank issued debit card that I could load online and that wouldn't count against my $5,000 monthly limit?

I'm in Target now and they can't activate my unopened unactivated cards. Any ideas what I can do? They haven't loaded them or anything like that.

This is happening more and more on this board and others. I think Target may have limited activating cards in non-participating stores. I can't find a store to activate the cards that my mother in law sent me as a Chanuka present.

I was in target in la on friday. I didn't see any redcards on the shelf but there were signs saying to sign up for the card. So.. I did. Not sure if It was the right thing or not. My temp card is a receipt. They said I'm gonna get a permanent one in the mail. Anyone have any experience with this? Is this the same thing?
