Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Was having that issue with BP. They may have limited that too.

No issues with bp.  I paid 4k to my Amex (from which I loaded) and also to Chase without any issues.

I had it limit me to 5k total. Did you pay 4k for each or just 4k?

Target in brooklyn (Flatbush ave) have the worst customer service desk. They make up their own rules about the card. They say you can only load $1000 per day on the card. If you try to circle the line to do it again, they send you away (without even swiping) saying that (according to their manager) there is a daily limit of 1 transaction per day. Bogus.

That is not the only location to make up such rules.

...and the answer is...

Payments via the Pay Bills Service to Payees that are not listed on the pre-populated list displayed online at the Prepaid REDcard Site are limited, in the aggregate to all such Payees, to $5,000 per calendar month.

Go upstairs to the electronics dept and do it there. If they resist because they are unfamiliar just ask them...nicely... to swipe on the right side of their terminal and the system will prompt them what to do next.

Anyone know if the target by erskine in Brooklyn has "made up" spend rules? Do they check ID?

Just called RC and they told me that the $1000 load on the temp card is counting towards the monthly $5000 limit and therefore only $1500 was loaded and not $2500
He gave me 2 options or go back to target and get a refund or dispute the charge with my credit card.
As it was one big charge for $2500 is there a way to dispute just part of a charge?

Ouch. This issue is mentioned in the FT wiki:
---
Q: What are the card’s load limits per transaction at Target?
When reloading the card at Target a $1000 maximum reload per transaction is in place.

update: Many have been able to load more than $1000 in a single credit card transaction. For example, cashier will swipe to load $1000 to RedBird, then cashier swipes to load another $1000 to Redbird, then the cashier will do a final swipe of Redbird to load $500. The purchaser can then swipe their CC on the customer terminal to pay for all three loads in one $2500 credit card transaction. This works up to the limit of $2500 per day. More details available here: Post#1904

Update: As of 12/26, some people have reported issues with not receiving full credit for multiple RB reloads in a single CC transaction as specified in the previous update. Always check your receipt to verify that it accurately shows your RedBird "New Balance" increasing with each successive load. Correcting the problem *may* be possible if caught immediately. Otherwise, your only option may be to dispute the transaction with your CC issuer.

Why do you need to go to a customer service desk? Can't you go through a regular register?

AFAIK no rules but havent been there since Dec. 1. Most NY area Targets will ask for ID to load. Its a big amount and theyre afraid of cc fraud. In Boston loaded 10k without any ID.

And you could try a regular register but they are on the same floor as CS. Thats why i said go upstairs. Electronics dept is out of sight out of mind for CS.

Im beginning to question my memory...idk if it was at erskine or at green acres mall that they limited me to 5k total load across all my cards. It may have been at erskine. Either way i will be trying other Targets after 1/1. Anyone try the one in Monsey?
