Topic Wiki

Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

I am driving down this week from nyc to sliver spring MD can someone tell me where is the best place not far from the 95 where I can get the red card ?
From my experience, I recommend Abingdon, MD. Don't go to Aberdeen.

When registering store activated cards online to receive permanent card they ask for some info used when activated in store. From the wiki it sound like you don't need that info. Can you just leave it blank?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Wow, awesome day today. Hands down the easiest MS I've ever done.

Walked into Target, straight to CS. She knew what the card was and asked how much. I did the FT method, and voila - no calls to fraud dept just approved for $2500.
Had to run to the dentist after that.
One the way home, stopped by another Target with my second card. Straight to CS. He knew what it was and asked how much. I did just $500 (to finish off the $3K spend on that card) and then asked can we load it again from another source. No problem. FT method for the last $2K. Magical.

Notes:
1) I once tried the FT method in the past and the CS said no that will have to be separate transactions. So this was my first successful attempt.
2) Both CS reps knew the card, which in one way means it's easier and less awkward. In another way, it means more Targets know about it and the clock is ticking... :-\
3) I bought some things I needed at Target, that I wouldn't have bought had I not been there. Perhaps that will help encourage Target to keep it alive? Who knows?
4) I need more SSNs :(
What is the FT method?
You said you loaded 2.5k was it in one transaction?  I know from the thread that it's allowed 1k per load..  What's going on?

Read it again. Look at 3, 4a, 4b, and 4c

Quote
To summarize (in case others are having trouble understanding the benefit):
1) Go to customer service desk (this is moderately complex, don't hold up the regular cashiers and draw attention to yourself!).
2) Tell them you want to load the redbird
3) When asked amount, tell them $1k.
4) When asked to swipe your payment, tell them you'd like to try loading a total of $2,500 but pay with one CC. If they say they aren't sure if it will work, ask if they would mind trying.
4a) Ask to load another $1k
4b) Ask to load another $500
4c) At this point, the cashier has swiped your redbird 3 times, but you haven't paid anything yet.
5) Swipe your credit card that you are loading with to complete transaction
6) THANK THE CASHIER for their help

This looks to Amex/Serve/Redbird like 3 transactions. You will get 3 confirmation emails. This looks to your bank like 1 large transaction, it will post as a single transaction to your CC. No fraud alerts!

I went to Aberdeen last night. Right off 95. They had a ton. Right away said I can only get one per a license. I brought my husbands license and they said no.  I went to cs and asked to do another the cashier who rang me out yelled over to cs that I just got one. I was very nice and low key and she insisted it would not  ring through. I asked kindly if she minded trying and she said fine. She didn't know I was typing in different ss numbers. Was suprized when it worked. She said cool I'll do another one for me as well :) lol. I hope to open a cc today to earn untied miles. Is that the best one for future travel to Israel United?
I think elal is changing to 100000 Amex for summer travel after feb 2010. Ba flying on us now charges 600 file and taxes.  I never had luck with flying blue getting any normal summer dates. Any other recommendations before I start this red card thing :) I am going this summer using Amex and need to start saving for next summer for family of five! Thanks for any recommendations
