Topic Wiki

Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

You can do it at a cashier
Call chase before to let them know you will make a big purchase in target

When doing the second 2.5K, do you need to call chase again???

If you did the day before

Or do the computers recognize that you make large purchases?

I'm pretty sure once you've done it once then you'll be fine

Also will chase decline the transaction if i do the full $2500 at one shot due to a fraud alert?
if so how do i avoid it?
Then what does the wiki mean when it says
"see note immediately below about doing up to 2.5K per transaction (or do 3 transactions: 1K, 1K, $500 - or any combination you desire.) "
How do i pull that off?

The limit for a single transaction is 1k. Don't swipe for 2.5k.

FT Method allows you to load the max daily limit, 2.5k in 3 transactions in one swipe, so it's one bill on your cc bill + it's only one fraud alert.

Ask the cashier to load 1k, then another 1k, and another 500. Then swipe for all 3, in one swipe.
You can modify your original post. The modify button is right next to the quote button.

I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Has anyone tried adding more than $5,000 per month to his RedCard? I know someone will tell me to try and report back, which I would be happy to do,  but if it's going to trigger a financial review or some other adverse event, I would rather learn from others' experience! (I'm presuming it just won't work at the Target cashier/customer service, but if it did work, would it trigger badness from RedCard Central?)

Highly doubt that it would cause financial review. Card probably will not let you

The T&C sets limits which i am pretty sure are hard programmed into Targets system. So GL trying. I'm pretty sure its a waste of time.
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

+1. BB and Serve were hard coded, and gave an error if you tried. There's no reason to assume Redcard would be different.

By mistake I tried adding more than 5k having not realized that I had already reached the limit with the temporary load, etc.  I was unable to load the funds and the cashier told me to call the number on the back of the card.  Once the month rolled over everything was normal as usual.

Ok, so I think we can rest assured that the $5,000 limit is firm and does not need to be further tested. Thanks, everyone.  ;)
