Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

If you go to a store and give them a credit card which they swipe as a debit card, will it still go through when they swipe it on their machine marked as debit?

In general for loading RC especially if it's a new card, I would advise on making a few purchases before you load the RC.

Always call creditor before you make a large purchase, so to avoid these types of issues
I've had it declined on 2 different cards one from amex and one from barclay even after calling but never had an issue when going back a second time with the same card although i've never done 2.5k on one card. so basically if you build up slowly you shouldn't have an issue ever and if you try to go all out on a brand new card even if you call before it will very likely be declined
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

it will require a pin

My chase freedom which is my oldest card (probably 3 years) gets declined all the time at target, while my other chase freedom which is less than 3 months old works no problem.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Your 3 year old card may not be used to large Target purchases, while your new card prob is... Give it a few more tries, and it should get used to the new patterns...

I hear but what makes you say the RC and CC systems are so well synced with each other. It's a totally separate branch of the company I would think.
I would think that all of my cards used at Target for $1000 purchases could take a wild guess and figure it out. (I mean, if I was making a real purchase at Target for 1k, I'd use my RedCard of course!) I think that the cc companies don't care - why would they?

Why would they care? Because it's MS and they don't want to give out points for that (though come to think of it not sure why ur they're getting their merchant fees).

There are prob many ppl who hear of MS try it once and give up, meanwhile they still have the card, spend on it forever, and the bank makes tons of $... Maybe the banks (bottom line end of day) make tons of money on all our Target purchases, and I hope they do for a long time...

I'm having trouble figuring out the pattern for when RB instantly approves the registration, and when they require us to call in to verify our identity. When I applied for my RB a couple months ago, it didn't approve me instantly and I had to call in. I had closed my BB about a week earlier and used a different email address. I purchased the card from a Target store, so the SSN and name should've matched what was entered in the store. I then bought a 3rd party RB for my mom's SSN and that one was approved instantly. My sister bought one from a 3rd party and that one was approved too. She bought one for my dad's SSN and now that one requires a call-in to verify. The only potential pattern I can think of is that for the instant approvals, we didn't enter in the DOB. Is that the determining factor?

I just had my first unsuccessful target run tonight... couldn't get out of my driveway because someone was parked illegally.

PS: the sky is not falling
It was probably a Target employee's car, though. They're really increasing their efforts to stop it.

Ha.  In my area, target is coming around with a 4 wheel drive to pick up DDFers and bring them to target ☺

True although this is nothing new.
We got basically the same update last week the day after the focus group.
