Topic Wiki

Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

If I charge my card 10k ( useing  redcard) can it trigger a FR?
Because I charged it 10k and by 5k I got a fraud alert and by 7k again but I verified it so it worked but after 9.5k it didn't wanna work anymore and I didn't get no fraud alert.

Charge cards have unofficial limits. You may have hit yours.

Most likely is fraud. Call and say it was you who made the charges.

just call. if its fraud it gets resolved quickly. if its an FR then you deal with it. no point stressing over what might be nothing.

Was this the Amex PRG or BGR (sounds like that)? If so and you charged up things too quickly you may be in hot water but it may be a mini FR not the real deal. Just make sure you can explain your actions when you call.

How can you possibly "know your limits" on a charge card? It's an internal AMEX thing even if you asked them they can't tell exactly what your limit is (only what is not your limit-meaning what you can charge).

Fraud alerts out the wazoo! Tried loading with newish Chase Southwest card (2nd time loading with it) and no go. I call fraud services tell them I'm extremely frustrated and that I don't want any more fraud alerts for my purchases at Target. The fraud rep says he's sorry and that there's nothing they can do, their system sees a seemingly disproportionate charge made at target and due to the recent security breach transaction will not go thru. He got me using the card again, I loaded 1k, then got denied for another 1k immediately afterwards so I loaded with another CC then jumped back to the SW card for 500. Wouldn't let me load after that. Tried calling fraud services again but didn't have the patience to wait another year 10+ mins. Argg! Super frustrating. Anyone have any suggestions on how to avoid this recurring nightmare?

I've found it helpful to put a high charge amount on your account--With chase you can set them for a month or so out from when you call. They'll ask location, store(s) and rough amount ($2000-$3000, or whatever, but a range works). Haven't had any issues after that. I only called for Target but ended up doing high spending elsewhere, and didn't have an issue.

No.  Because last time I had a very similar thing and they asked me all kinds of questions,  and it was a mini FR,  and now  I'm not sure what to tell them  if they will ask me why I spend 10k at Target?

I don't think it will just go away over time. May be better to rip the band-aid off.

It's not so simple as you make it,  last time I told them that I like to shop at Target a lot I bought many things and they didn't let go... I got transfered to many departments till it got resolved

why is it there business what you are buying at target. lets say it was a very costly medication from the pharmacy, thats private information. as long as you didnt lie to them about your income and they can verify that you should be ok.
