Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Just did my card and my wife's card on 4/1 and today at our local Target in MA. Did 2500 on each card each day, so we're done for the month.  My "innovations" this month: 1) using totally not-round-numbers for the CC loads and 2) loading GC's.

I had about 3 $500 GCs I had bought to finish the Freedom Q1, plus I went out and bought 5 $200 GCs from Staples to get 5points/$1.  The advantage I see of mixing GCs with CCs for loading is that there's less chance of getting the charge denied by the CC due to fraud protection alerts.  The amounts are lower and it's fewer CC charges.  The downside, of course, is that it's more swiping at the Target register -- so if they're busy or annoyed, not good, but that wasn't an issue for me.  Also, there are the GC fees, but I think it's a reasonable tradeoff.  Just my two cents.

Wishing everyone a chag kasher v'sameach!

I went to Target here in NJ to fill up my Prepaid Redcard from a CC and it didn't allow it to go thru in the same store I was successful yesterday, I called and spoke to a Redcard representative and they said that as of today the technical department doesn't allow loading up prepaid Redcards from CC or gift cards. I went on the website and there's no mention of the option of loading up from a CC or gift card either, and two days ago it was posted on their website. So it's safe to assume that loading a Prepaid RedCard with a CC is over.

No call up the number on the back of your card, speak to a representative and see for yourself!

So I guess stop calling is right (though either way it's right I guess it won't get you anywhere).

Regardless of whether you don't know or are purposefully spreading misinformation...the credit card loads to Redbird are within the cash category as described on their legal page, and most importantly, as factually allowed by Target. From the REDcard legal disclosure page (emphasis is mine):

Quote
b. Payment Funding Sources for Adding Funds to an Account.

1) Bank Account.

(2) Debit Card.

(3) Direct Deposit.

(4) Cash Funding Sources.

You may add funds to your Account by (i) presenting cash (US currency only) or other accepted tender and your Card at participating Target stores in the U.S. or (ii) using other cash funding sources and methods accepted by us from time to time (collectively, "Cash Funding Sources").

The Redbird legal page can be read here: https://amex.serve.com/prepaidredcard/legal/

I wouldn't be surprised that if someone called Redbird cust service and asked them whether credit cards are allowed, the rep would likely read a script and, not finding on it specifically that credit cards are allowed, will tell the person calling they are not allowed. This however doesn't change the facts on the ground, that is at Target stores. Tell it to my 3 Redbirds being loaded regularly with credit cards that credit cards are not allowed.

Besides North Carolina and Arkansas, all other states do allow credit card loading to Redbird currently. However, there are a few individual Target stores that have recently disallowed credit card loading to Redbird, such as a couple in NYC. A couple of other stores (also in NYC) have also curbed the daily loading limit to $1K (it's $2.5K elsewhere).

Dude you got to stop these accusations. We've been through this already-he's not going to harm your business. You got to let a guy comment what's on his mind without being subject to this kind of stuff.

Not when he is either clearly an idiot for calling or a moron for  not actually doing any research. Just because you believed the shmo on FT, you shouldn't go around defending every idiot posting ridiculous garbage.
