Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

So lately i've noticed more and more brooklyn / queens target employees ("Team Leaders" at the g-damn guest services counter) checking IDs. The problem here is that I have 2 RCs (me + wife) and i can no longer spend on my wife's (without her being present). Has anyone else been getting asked for IDs? Any suggestions for a way around this?

I get asked for ID once in a while (I live OOT though) and when I do, I just say that I want to fill my wife's account for her. Usually not an issue and they let me.

"I'd like to load my wife's card, please." is a good start.

+1 if you have the same last name it shouldn't be a huge issue, maybe bring her ID with you as well although that might make matters worse...

If it is unusual activity/spending for you, it will trigger an alert until it remembers your new sending habits.
and if you stop for a month you start from square one again IME with amex

I was at a target today (in brooklyn) doing a $500 load (my 3rd of the day) and i got an error as soon as they swiped my red card... something along the lines of "cannot process card". I called CS and they said there shouldn't be a problem since i'm still allowed another 500 for the day / month and my account is in good standing. Must be an in-store thing... ?
this happen to me this month as well I called they said no problem with my account but my card would not work not for purchases or loading so I asked them to send me a knew one they sent it ups and got in time to load. I suggest you ask them to send you a new card, this the second time this happen to me

No offence intended here but i'm not an idiot. Their new policy seems to be that the card holder must be present. They will not let me load my wife's card without her being there...  I've had this experience with 2 targets in Bklyn.

This has nothing to do with being an idiot or not. This is very YMMV and depending on store, shift, person  and charm many different reports can come back from the same place. Don't fight them on it but don't assume that this is something is now over..

Just had an interesting experience at a Target.

The store i went to matches RC to CC and DL. After checking all three, the guy handed me back my DL and swiped my RC to load $1,000. He then swiped my CC and i signed the monitor, but the card only took off $0.46 and i had to pay with a different card. I called my CC company to see what the issue was and was told no charges were made that day. I checked the receipt and saw that the guy swiped my RC two times and it withdrew the $0.46 that was left on the card.

So aside from the manager being a bit incompetent, how does it work loading a RC with the same RC. Not that it accomplishes anything, but does it count towards your monthly limit?

Are there any Targets in the West Hempstead / 5towns area that still allow $2,500? Coming in from NJ on Sunday, would like to kill 2 birds with one stone, since my local one only allows $1K per person per day.

Westbury 1k 1 card limit. Nasty CS.
Levittown Anything goes. How many? How much? Please. Thank you. Have a great weekend. Gonna go back thee next Wednesday and/or Friday.

Gonna be in Danbury CT on Tuesday. Plan on taking care of $2.5k per, there. Gotta load up on GC's though.

Rule of thumb: Near DDF concentrated area $1K limits are the norm. You have Valley Stream and Westbury nearby but recent experiences have been the aforementioned limits. YMMV Always.
