Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Anyone know if I use a Citi card will it come up as cash advance

I've done multiple transactions with a Citi card and each time it has shown up as a regular purchase coded "Grocery Store, Supermarket."

PSA: Someone told me that he by mistake tried registering online before activating in-store. He got an error that the card # and the security code don't match. When I told him he needs to activate it, he went to target, but the register gave an error "Do Not Sell", and wouldn't activate it. Someone told me that he heard that trying to register it before activating flags it for fraud, and you can't activate it afterwards.

that makes total sense, assume for a second, that it was really 2 Ppl, as soon as it gets activated and loaded in the store, someone else already has the information,
So it makes perfect sense that they won't sell it...

That's what makes this safer than the VRs.
After a CVS trip, I'd walk out into the LA parking lot with a $4K
value that could be used by anyone at anytime.

With REDcard, this process is much safer and secure.

It wouldn't make sense since the Target software needs to verify ID when they register it.

It still doesn't make sense that it should be, but I would love to be wrong.

There you go. Just call. And next time you can call up and give them a heads up about the charge if you want to assure things go smoothly.

Yup, you might even be able to use the automated system.
But just tell them you're notifying them of a large purchase at Target.
