Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

if it helps, IME with loading VGC on RB:

1 i say i would like to load 400 onto RB with 2 debit cards
2. customer service asks how much on 1st debit, i say 200
3. she inputs that into machine, i swipe 1st debit
repeat steps 2 and 3 for 2nd debit card

once, the receipt was for 400 and another time i got 2 receipts for 200 each, depends on how the cashier does it

I think it might depend on whether the cashier swipes the vgc on her machine or we do on ours. Ime multiple vgc work when the cashier does the swiping.

Does it make sense that I can't do bill pay with temp card, do I need to wait until I get permanent card to use bill pay?
Does ATM work with temp card? Is it same $750 max/day?
BUMP
Any way to pay bills/get cash with temp RedBird or do I have to wait until I get permanent version in mail?

It seems that people have received $400 cash per day via the Target ATM, prior to perm card arrival.

It's a slow rollout. Employees referred to it as a "pilot program".

They do it for almost everything they try out. It's bad business to order something for thousands of stores just to find out that they don't sell.

As an aside I am glad they are not in ny because it will likely die much faster once it makes it to ny

So what's the best thing to do if I take my unactivated cards to Target and I'm not prompted for SSN and ID? I don't want to waste the cards. I just  bought them.

I won't have an issue activating more than one per day (DW will be coming this time ) but it seems like people are not being promoted for SSN and ID at all. Am I misunderstanding the situation? Are people being promoted but only on the first time?

CA is not one of the RC states so it may not be coded into the local registers. However, since both the ID and the SS# need to be confirmed online anyway when registering for a new card, and if you are hesitant, then perhaps just start with activating with $20 each card and see? If you see that the $20 shows up as the current balance when registering online - as it goes by "individual card number" (or if you are able to withdraw that amount of money from the ATM, then you will know that it worked. You can still swipe up to $1500 on the temp card until your perm card shows up...)

I know CA is not a RC state. My question is not about registering online. I'm concerned that I'll have issues activating the cards in the store for the first time. How can I make sure the cards won't end up fried?
