Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Yes
. Thanks in advance for the help.
They each bring a card to the register and 'activate' it by putting on money.  They can put in their correct info or make it all up: ss#, DOB, phone.
They bring it to you.
You and your wife each empty and close your Serves.
You each register the RC on line. etc.

Your parents may want to go back in line and use a different SS# to get another set of RCs activated at the cashier.  They have a market value. http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=45909.275

I made a mistake calculating and accidentally tried to load an extra penny on to the card today and went over the max for the day.  Was loading with 2 different cards.  For the second load I did 1000 + 146.88 ( when is should have been 146.87) My receipt says $1146.88 but the last 146.87 never loaded.  Anyone have any experience with this?  Will the charge on my cc end up showing as 1000 or 1146.88.  If the latter, what happens to the 146.88 that never loaded?
Just a Thought: If still at the store, bring up your account and show them your balance before the load, and then show the receipt which has the total, thereby proving that the money didn't all load onto RC. Once you leave the cashier/store, this probably won't work due to the load being non refundable.

Had something similar and they told me I should dispute it with the cc

Did you? Was it a problem to tell the cc co. what you were charging?

When adding a bank account, is there any reason to do the non-instant verification (with 2 deposits) as opposed to giving them my login info?
certain banks dont work even with login info. Capital One required non-instant verification. Chase was fine.

If you have proof that 30 seconds ago a charge didn't go through and your cc was charged, won't they refund your money? I saw it here:
Ouch. This issue is mentioned in the FT wiki:
---
Q: What are the card’s load limits per transaction at Target?
When reloading the card at Target a $1000 maximum reload per transaction is in place.

update: Many have been able to load more than $1000 in a single credit card transaction. For example, cashier will swipe to load $1000 to RedBird, then cashier swipes to load another $1000 to Redbird, then the cashier will do a final swipe of Redbird to load $500. The purchaser can then swipe their CC on the customer terminal to pay for all three loads in one $2500 credit card transaction. This works up to the limit of $2500 per day. More details available here: Post#1904

Update: As of 12/26, some people have reported issues with not receiving full credit for multiple RB reloads in a single CC transaction as specified in the previous update. Always check your receipt to verify that it accurately shows your RedBird "New Balance" increasing with each successive load. Correcting the problem *may* be possible if caught immediately. Otherwise, your only option may be to dispute the transaction with your CC issuer.

what you posted didn't have proof that they'll refund for you, I'd be surprised if they'd refund it for you. I guess we won't know until someone tries it.

I dont understand why using VGCs is worth it at Target, you esentially are giving up additional spend by using the VGC in its place. $2K in VGC instead of $2k in regular spend on RC.

Money orders seem to be by far the cheapest way to unload, but It seems many Walmarts are cracking down on buying money orders with VGCs. Can it be done at their automated money centers? how do you do multiple swipes for one money order? Any advice?

If those VGC are from Staples using Chase Ink (5%) or from supermarkets using AMEX gold (at least 2% ;)), those are better than just getting 1% by loading RC with those cc's

And then ask them to charge $200 at a time?

I'd probably do $1k + $1k + $400, personally.

No. Ask them to swipe for 1k. Then swipe your vgc, it will show balance 800. Keep swiping gcs till you've covered the balance. Please don't do this with many gcs and many red cards, contributing to the speed demise of RC!

... and to the guy who loaded at Target on 70 today with 8 different cards, maybe just make 2 or 3 extra trips a month instead?

Yes, but you can't use those cards to load funds. You can only transfer funds from your primary RC account onto up to 4 subaccounts.

+1
You can always come back around and go online again. What I've been doing is coming in, doing a load or two, then I do my shopping and come back on line to pay and do another load.
But again, I only have one RC :)
