Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Bronx took $1500 from me two days ago , and I think she would have done 10K but I was afraid the
$2500 a day total at Target was hard coded . Did not ask for ID . Gotta love the Bronx .

Is this the target by the Whitestone Bridge?

You're going to have to change your pic Target has fallen out of good grace.
I know, right?! And I just adopted it! I think I will keep it so long as GC loading remains viable there. So much more convenient and pleasant than WM.

It is per RC. If you have multiple cards, you can do $2,500 on each.

After a little thinking, i came up with my own conspiracy theory on the Redcard.

Target just wanted to gain the market of prepaid cards, so they allowed cc loads to get everyone to switch. Now that everyone has it, they reverted to the "standard" load limitations, figuring most people won't switch back to a different product that offers the same benefits.

I really don't get the "market" of prepaid cards.

I can't think why someone with a bank account & credit card should own a prepaid card under normal circumstances.

Were they trying to get the market of those unprivileged people who messed up and can't get a checking account?
Well, I doubt those folks are into the MS game at all.

You have to think of it a little like a bank. When you put money on the card, even if you are playing the MS game and will only keep it for a short period of time, target is holding your funds. They are probably holding tens of millions of dollars (if not hundreds of millions). They earn an investment return on those funds that may add up. Marco may be right, if they get tens of thousands of people to switch and they now store their money (for short periods of time, but repeatedly) with them, they may stand to make money.

The question is why would I want to have 1?
If not for MS.

One idea for a regular Target-shopper that uses a debit card or cash a lot (Sad but they do exist) is that you can just put some cash on the card, which you can get for free, and automatically get 5% off and free shipping for any amount. Certainly not a bad deal.

Many people with bad credit that shop in target and other stores, that would like a credit card that offers them some protection and amex offers.

They also got them to shop at target instead of WM. Though with the Sams Club offer I might switch back...

I'm saying even for MS. You are loading GCs so they have that money to hold until you unload it. And after you unload it....you will put more on. so they have an endless supply of your money to invest. What Marco was saying is that everyone who was MSing where using serve or bluebird or other, now they got tens of thousands (source: my made up figure) people to switch to them even for MSing.

Well one lesson from all this is how many policy decisions are made not by corporate but by bitter, dead end store managers on a power trip
