Topic Wiki

Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

With things like gift cards we usually try not to tell the cashiers that its such, rather just play like it's a credit / debit card. This way they don't get any smart ideas to ban gift cards.
When you did the load with the $200 gift cards you told the cashier that your loading $200?
BTW when you handed over your card to the cashier he/she was looking for the last 4 digits.

I told him it was $1000 total and showed him the 5 cards.
(Side note, Target Cashiers are rated on the job they are doing by a percentage, 95%,98% depending on the speed of transactions... it seemed my friendly concern that I was going to bring down his score bc of the time it took to make each swipe went a long way.)

Ill read through the Blubird thread tonight
thanks for the heads up.

Don't waste your time. Most of bluebird thread is walmart and debit card specific. target is a completely different world. In walmart you have to do debit. And for some cards that was a problem. At different times different cards didn't work. Sometimes there was a workaround, other times not. But for now, at least, target allows credit loads so you don't need pins, as your experience shows.
The only relevant point is not to tell them you have GC and if you can, conceal card. But it's not really a problem. if you use PIN for gc, they won't ask for last four. Only when you are doing credit. So it might be better to run GC as debit, but not worth making yourself crazy.

The point I was making was,  there is good guidance for what to say to the cashiers

How did you initiate the transfer? Under the send money tab?

I was in the Target in Howell NJ today doing a load up. The cashier wasnt sure how to load it so she called over another worker. She told her how to do it, which is extremely simple. Then she told the cashier that its a 2k max per customer per day. To which I commented that the register wouldn't even allow more per day (yes I know it's really 2.5k), she said true but people come in with a few cards and load 2k per card, going to different registers and even walking out and back in. She said it's a 2k per CUSTOMER  per day. No idea where she got this from, but anyways I hope it lives long.
This was all said by the Target employee in a very friendly tone and she didn't seem annoyed at all.  The comment wasn't either directed at me, it was for the cashier..... (she made some comment that the limit is because of the holiday season)
Just hope it lasts.

In this case it doesn't sound like it will last. Whoever is doing that whole coming in and out loading a few cards crap please stop for the benefit of all the others
