Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

Either way, the permanent card is a different number.

if using the cc to directly load up the RC, IMO starwood is better.

Went to staples to get 13 200 gift cards to load at target , one of them was unable to be activated but it charged me anyway and one day somehow scanned and charged twice. Luckily I have all the cards and receipts and now have to make a special trip. I figurred this out when 2 cards wouldn't go through.

Went back to staples last night and got it all refunded. Luckily I had all my receiots with me and checked them over again and I saw that they charged me for the unactivated one twice. That was an easy refund, but the one that was double charged - that took over an hour with them on the phone with "cross check" or "cross channel" to get them a way to manually refund it.
It was so manually done that when they put in 206.95 it added $17 tax. They seemed all confused so i told them to do 190.08 and it worked out to the right price. I went in 20 minutes before closing and was there till 940.

quoted from the wiki:
To summarize (in case others are having trouble understanding the benefit):
1) Go to customer service desk (this is moderately complex, don't hold up the regular cashiers and draw attention to yourself!).
2) Tell them you want to load the redbird
3) When asked amount, tell them $1k.
4) When asked to swipe your payment, tell them you'd like to try loading a total of $2,500 but pay with one CC. If they say they aren't sure if it will work, ask if they would mind trying.
4a) Ask to load another $1k
4b) Ask to load another $500
4c) At this point, the cashier has swiped your redbird 3 times, but you haven't paid anything yet.
5) Swipe your credit card that you are loading with to complete transaction
6) THANK THE CASHIER for their help

This looks to Amex/Serve/Redbird like 3 transactions. You will get 3 confirmation emails. This looks to your bank like 1 large transaction, it will post as a single transaction to your CC. No fraud alerts!

tried this method and the computer didnt allow for a second swipe of the REDcard until i paid for the first swipe!
am i doing something wrong?

less likely to have your CC declined because of fraud, when doing a few large transactions in a row.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Wouldn't the Everyday preferred beat them both. You can get 1.5 MR points per dollar. Even with Starwood points being worth 1.25 times MR points, the Everyday preferred still comes out ahead.

Try same info except for the email.  (Then maybe later you can change the email anyway.)

Almost too easy...
(Yes, I'm aware of 5x at Staples. Other ways of cashing those out...)
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I closed it online and immediately registered my Redcard, IIRC.

ETA: Did you get the cancellation email?
