Sorry for bumping this topic. I just was wondering if anyone was interested still in splitting AMEX Platinum. I would possibly do it for a month at a time (depending on AMEX's rules) if you have a few flights and need Platinum for a short while to get into lounges, maybe we could work out a price.

does any one know how bad it will look if i cancel my amex platinum i have one and my year is about up and i dont want to pay 450 i got a promo for the first year being free dan maybe you know how bad it is? or any one for that matter

Why dont you just downgrade it to the green card?

they will let you, and it shouldn't affect your score (it's the same card/credit line, just different 'benefits')

actually, sinceit isn't a defined line of credit, i wonder what it does to your credit in the first place? does anyone know?

If i open and close the card...will is still have to pay the annual fee? Meaning, for the starwood amex, if you close the card when you are charged the annual fee, they refund the $45.

If i open it and then close it a few days after i get it, do they charge it prorated?

from experience, the platinum charge does get prorated.

however there are some reports that a canceled card won't work (supposedly they swipe at the door).

[one theoretical solution would be to get plat, downgrade to green ($95/year), [never activate the new card] and the old plat (same # as active green) will still work/show up as active]

If you cancel any card within 30 days of the annual fee showing up on the statement you will get a full refund.

I've heard now from a few people that have had their cancelled card swiped and it still worked. Personally my card is active so I can't personally confirm or deny.

It may be worth spending the $1,000 on the card to get the 25,000 MR points and then canceling and paying the pro-rated annual fee for however long it took spend the $1,000 and get the points.

Careful, some Plats (like mine) only give the main card holder Priority card.

As said on a different post, I can arrange Star alliance gold + Skyteam Gold

Its a big headache, so lets hear what its worth for you.

Not sure what you're talking about, but all US issued AMEX Plat cards definitely have lounge access.

And I'm not sure what the moral difference is whether the card is downgraded or canceled?
