I opened this card and I'm waiting for the points to post so I can cancel it. I've seen mentioned that instead of canceling it's better to downgrade it to a free card. I called Amex and they said bec it's a charge card, the only card it can be downgraded to is the gold.    so I want to know:    Is it necesary to downgrade (and avoid closing) to still get lounge access? If yes, what can it be downgraded to?

100K was never a public offer.
And they never target me for anything...

25K is the best I've ever seen for a public offer.

you can sign up, get the card, the points will post at around 59 days, and then cancel right away. You are left with a cancelled card (lounge access) signup bonus, and no fee paid.  In the event that the points dont post by 60 days and the $450 is due, you can cancel before 90  days and only pay prorated fees

Haven't seen a first year free in many years.
If you signup, spend $1,000, get the 25K miles and then cancel after say 3 months, you will get a 75% refund of the annual fee so you'll only pay $111.
If you cancel within a month of getting the statement with the annual fee you won't have to pay the annual fee at all.

Not once you have them and transfer them.

You have to transfer all of the points before you cancel.

They won't deduct the 25K after canceling.  If you have other AMEX Charge cards then you can leave them without worry.

So if I have a charge card that I earned points on, signed up for plat, got points, transfer ONLY the 25k from plat bonus, and close plat, my other Amex MR will remain??

You can even leave those 25K points, they won't take them away once they're earned.
As long as you have a valid Charge card open your points are safe.
