For great music avoid the honkytonks and head to the Station Inn.  There's usually a $15 cover or so but it's well worth it.  Try to get there on the early side as it fills up pretty quickly.

Definitely check out the Gaylord Opry Hotel. The massive gardens inside the hotel are stunning.
I spent a few hours just checking it out. There are a couple of different sections with different style plants. There is a cute boat ride that goes around as well.
You can park at the mall next door and walk over for free parking. It's a couple min walk, you'll just have to figure out where in the mall lot to park to be near the path that leads to the hotel.

I'm headed to Nashville end of April for a conference at Music City Center. Couple specific questions for those who have been there recently...

Is a rental car a necessity? Can I make do with taxis/uber/public transportation?
Google turned up Grins Vegetarian Cafe (at Vanderbilt's Hillel), and Thyme Cafe, about 20 min drive SW of the city. Anyone know of others?
The conference is being held at Renaissance Nashville, and there are no redemption opportunities there. I'm still a relative newbie at finding worthwhile hotel redemptions, so any recommendations or advice is much welcome.

My father in law will be going to Nashville in May. Whats the story with Kosher food, Minyunim?

And what would be a nice hotel?
