I just paid with Apple Pay - Very cool!
« on: October 20, 2014, 05:45:39 PM »
I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 8.1 today to play around with Apple Pay.

    Some lessons learned:
    • Loading cards is really easy.  I loaded a few Chase cards and a few Amex cards with no problems.
    • Chase makes you confirm with a code sent to your email or texted to your phone, Amex required no confirmation
    • I was unable to load any GCs  :(.  Was hoping to use Apple Pay for "5% Everywhere".  Hopefully they will allow GCs soon.
    • Paying at the register was insanely simple.  Pointed at the thingie, it asked me for my fingerprint and done.
  • Received confirmation of purchases.  Passbook shows full purchase history for Amex and only Apple Pay history for Chase.

So it's like Google Wallet for iPhone?:P

Truth is I'm excited about this. Hoping it compels more stores to accept NFC payments.

Quite different actually.

  • Neither Apple nor my phone store my credit card number.  The security aspect is a game changer.
  • It's so easy to load cards and pay.

Any reason not to update? (You know how these updates can be...)

So far I haven't experienced any issues.  I skipped the previous updates for exactly that reason...

It's all about tokenization.  That's the big differentiator and that's what will change credit card security from today on.

Seems like Chase cards only work for Visas

This update fixes a bunch of bugs from the previous update some of which drove me nuts like video freezing on safari, screen failing to rotate and much more,
Looks good.

Can't name but it shows the graphic of the card type and the last 4 digits.  I don't think we're the average user. Most just have one of each kind of card.

Exactly! I guess that's what they are expecting.

My Ink Mastercard also didn't work.

I had to try several times to get my SPG Biz card to authenticate.

I was able to use it after that though.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

Here's a list of compatible cards. Chase business cards are not yet compatible
