DDMS: The Best Cards From Barclays Bank

-The Lufthansa Premier Miles & More World MasterCard
You can enroll in the Miles & More program here.

US to Israel: For departures from the USA nonstop to Tel Aviv: 80K coach, 135K business. For departures from the USA to Tel Aviv via Europe: 100K coach, 185K business, 290K first. For departures from Israel to the USA nonstop or via Europe for Miles & More accounts with an Israeli address on file: 60K coach, 105K business, 170K first.

The card has no foreign exchange fees.
Lufthansa miles have a few sweet uses:

3 one-way domestic first class flights on United:
You can fly on Star Alliance partner United in domestic first class for just 17,000 miles each way with no fuel surcharges.  All United flights between JFK and Los Angeles or S. Francisco and several flights from Newark have lie-flat seats in business class.  Plus you can still order hot kosher meals between JFK and Los Angeles or S. Francisco in business class.  United charges 25,000 of their own miles each way for these seats, so you’ll save 8,000 miles each way via Lufthansa. Within 24 hours Lufthansa does allow free cancellations even on United medal.

Remember to book one-way flights as a round-trip business class is 35,000 but they charge half the price and round down for one-way so it’s only 17,000 each way.

4 one-way coach tickets:
A one-way coach ticket within the US on United will run 12,000 miles.

Business class to Europe:

Business class to Europe is 52,000 miles each way and there are no fuel surcharges on Lot Polish which flies 787s with an excellent lie-flat business class to Warsaw. (Note that United.com can’t search for LOT Polish flights if you use that to search for Star Alliance awards).
Availability is excellent.

Hawaii:

Business class to Hawaii (including lie-flat seats on flights from Houston and Newark) is just 35,000 miles each way when booked with Lufthansa miles flying on United with no fuel surcharges.  That’s a 10,000 mile savings on a round-trip flight compared to using United miles.
Coach is 20K miles each way, a 5,000 mile savings on a round-trip flight compared to using United miles.

Israel based account:
If your Lufthansa account is registered with an Israeli address then you can book tickets from Israel using the much cheaper Europe award rates.  A flight from Israel to the US will be prices like a flight from Europe to the US. (now must call to get this rate)

Other uses:
Lufthansa First Class has significantly better availability when booked with Miles & More as opposed to programs like United.
There is also much better availability on other airlines like Singapore’s top-notch business class when booked via Miles & More as opposed to programs like United.
Barclays cards can be churned, so you can always start saving up for a dream trip.

Mileage Expiration
Miles expire after 36 months, regardless of activity. If you have a Miles & More credit card and use it monthly, then your miles will not expire.

So why not book separately for 87k?

I didn't book it yet just on hold, not sure if worth it the hassle of having it one 2 PNR's to save 10K miles...

Edit: Actually the 2nd leg (ZRH-TLV) is in economy since no J avail, so booking separate may be much fewer miles, however the YQ I believe will shoot up as JFK-ZRH shows $500 YQ pp on their site while JFK-ZRH-TLV was less than $300 YQ pp

67k? vs 92k the points are worth more than the $200 extra YQ

After checking again it was $500 pp regardless even when booking TLV on the same PNR, so I booked similar option with United Miles instead for 85K pp no YQ but $550 total in fees (about $450 for the infant broken as $387 for the fare and $60 taxes)

These are the changes that will affect you, Mr. .....
As announced by the Lufthansa Group airlines in December, the way your award miles are calculated will change with effect from 12 March 2018. From that date onwards, your miles will be allocated based on the fare – i.e. the ticket price plus any surcharges levied by the respective airline. To calculate the number of award miles, the fare will be multiplied by a factor that is dependent on your frequent flyer status and the airline operating your flight.

In the first few weeks after this change, it is possible that your award miles will still be calculated based on the current system, i.e. by flight distance and booking class. If this is the case, we will make an adjustment after the last flight in your trip to compensate for the difference between the two calculation methods.

Please note: in the future, your award and status miles will be calculated in two different ways. As a result, they will appear with different figures in your Miles & More account statement.

Is there something you are still unsure about? On miles-and-more.com we have put together lots of helpful information for you that should answer all the essential questions about this change and about the future allocation of award miles.

Kind regards,

Your Miles & More Team

I believe they expire at the end of the quarter three years after they were acured, irrelevant of subsequent activity.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm in a similar situation.

50 euro
Per flight? Per leg? Per passenger? Per booking?
For €50 they'll redeposit the miles and refund the taxes and then my miles will expire 36 months after I redeposit?

Thanks for your help

The miles are not good for another 3 years. Just another 3 or maybe 6 months

Do you need to spend on it every month?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Its unclear if monthly spend is required.

When I try to see what's available online it can't find anything at all. When calling they find  LH flights for my dates.
Any ideas why?
