Are they still closing or are they done for the round?

They offered me to close this week but I declined and im still open

From flyertalk, it seems the new round just started.

Yeah, saw that and was disappointed.  I guess it's tied to statement date.  I guess I should call to cancel. I hate closing my oldest card but that's better than an account closure on my credit. I need to buy a house in 6-9 months...

Statement closing is a trigger but not for everyone. I would sit tight.

That is probably wise thing to do. See the following from flyertalk:

>What effect will this have on our credit?
>A person I know reapplied for the card and it as declined. The CSR said that the reason was that the previous account was 'unsatisfactorily maintained.'
>He then applied for a credit limit increase for another Amex card. This was declined with the reason being:
>'You have previous delinquencies on your American Express account.'

There are conflicting data points to everything right now. No pattern has been found so far as to what is going on. Taking a shot in the dark is never a good idea.

No definitive pattern but it definitely appears connected to statement date and/or a purchase.  My statement closes on 11/8.  I'd hate to lose a few thousands in RD but the loss in my mortgage potentil could be higher.  My credit score is >800, it would be a shame to have such a stain...

I have seen shutdown for accounts with no recent purchases and statement dates beginning of next month...

There are also accounts in this same situation that have not been closed so far.

Exactly why there are no "definitive" triggers for shutdowns known.

Will you please allow me to panic without annoying facts and reason.  Thank you.

How much would the credit score go down if they close it ?

I am wondering the same thing.  I rather loss some RD than lose credit score.

Has anyone received a letter sending them a new BC with a new number because of possible fraud on the old one?

Depends on your credit profile. I close cards and see no effect on my score.

Are you saying there's no difference if Amex closes it or if he closes it other than it stating who closed it ?

For credit score yes but a manual review by a lender might be different. Also remember having cards go dormant and closed say closed by creditor. So this notation in its self does not mean something negative.

I always thought closed by creditor was really bad...
