My card was recently closed and Amex raised the CL on my SPG Biz without me asking.

Just a data point.

Seems like you can apply for another Amex card after the BC balance is paid in full. It seems that when they closed the cards they put it into collections mode which produced the denials.

So if balance is completely paid off, the denials for previous unsatisfactory relationship don't happen?

So you (and your friends) were initially denied for that reason, and then applied again and was approved? Instantly? recon?

I was never denied, but had a zero balance and was approved for a new card after closure. Others were denied then approved. The only difference was that they paid off their balance in between.

I was never in this game, unfortunately, but what's the current situation? Can this still be done but to a lesser degree or all GC purchases get flagged?

Still early to tell but all the heavy hitters have now given up on this card. IIRC it now has a 50k cap per year so that might be doable without causing any problems.
