Don't like how this sounds.

I'm planning on getting the card soon and doing the same thing.

Please keep us updated.

I don't plan on calling right away.  I know how the phone call will go.

I would just reiterate to tread lightly with these guys now.  In a matter of 3 months they've gone from the most MS friendly issuer to bottom of the barrel.

Thankfully my MS was on $0 fee PP cards and T-Mobile/RLiT's so, it's $0 out of pocket for the what I assume are lost points.  But, it was still a gas and time suck.

So $15.5K was NOT only on Hilton in Jan? What about ONLY on Hilton?

Ha, who wasn't at 20x that when BC was working well? :)

This was actually the only significant spending on AMEX since the blue death reported back in Oct.

As far as Hilton goes, I hadn't spent sweet f**k all on the card since the $40K I spent in Jan of last year :)

Yeah, I'm sure as a general rule, it's scarier to creditors to see a spike to $40K in one month, than to do 3-4k/month for a year.

Perhaps... but... I have my doubts on this one.  I unfortunately seem to be a trendsetter on these things it seems (first time posting here but active on FT and other forums using a different alias -- posting here due to proxy block at work).  Besides... misery loves company :P

Yeah.  I should have rampped up.  But, with this card it's been a $40K shot per year during the month of Jan for the past 3 years in a row.  I Was FR'd on it in 2012 but given the 'go ahead' afterwords.  Kind of figured why change things... But clearly I should have accounted for the very distinct possibility of a change in policy after the 'blue death'.

In the latest news in flyertalk,  Amex is following a new policy to close all the accounts once an account is closed

Oh yeah... completely slipped my mind.  I did spend $6K on my BCP card on Jan 2nd... and just checked... and ... yup... that card is cancelled as well.

Only AMEX cards that remain are those that I haven't used for MS purposes lately.

AMEX is doing things differently now it seems.  Previously was given a 30 day notice of cancellation before doing so (I guess it's a California thing).  Now they're just nuking them... as of today it seems.

Amex has really taken a stand with the new bonus limit on personal cards and shutting down MS'ers.

Well... then that pretty much puts them as next to useless for my purposes.  That said, I've been pretty much forced into retirement now (as it's not like I can get Citi/Chase/WF in the near future either).

Thanks. Certainly not promising. Hopefully this is more on the isolated side. Maybe just for the CA folk :)

Lol...

Fortunately I never did give up the day job, although during the OBC boom AMEX was paying me about twice that I was getting from 'real work'...   It's just crappy to have to adjust the lifestyle for the seriously diminished income.

Agreed. When OBC was going strong, anything was possible. Now, it is much harder and more effort.

It seems that Citi 'Preferred' to shut me down in 2013.

I was too 'bold' with Chase in 2014 it appears, and they did not consider me a 'Plus' as a customer.

WF... well... as far as WF goes... well instead of calling them WF... I just call them WTF (last year they shut down my 5% card with them after literally only 1 week of getting it).
