I actually have the exact closing date on my wifes old BC and it did not post yet. I don't MS on hers, I use it for day to day spend.

Wow I also have the 27th, and it also hasn't posted yet. I do MS (expecting about 1k in cb with this statement).

I preemptively closed my card today even though:

  • I make a ton of money on it
  • It's the oldest card in my credit history
  • I have such fond memories

This was a hard decision to make, this card paid my kids' tuition and more.  It has served me well for so many years.   I made the decsion to preemptively close it because:

  • I need to buy a house in 6-9 months
  • Account Closed by Issuer would have looked a lot worse on my credit report than Account Closed by Customer, potentially preventing me from getting a mortgage at a good rate.
  • Even if I had somehow survived the massacre, the MS days on this card are over.
  • There will always be other opportunities in the future after the house it bought.

Farewall, OBC, you'll be missed...   :'(

Maybe I'll do that under my wife's name.  Her credit score isn't as great as mine, 730 vs 805 so I'm hesitant to open anything under her name so close to buying a house.
