So the bank says that amex provides the ach name.  I am guessing that because that account was used to pay his amex the first name amex will always title it with his name.

Still very scary that you could use someone else's bank account without them knowing to pay your amex bill.  All you need is account and routing info.

Just that and if its a personal or biz account
So all I need is someone's banking info and I can have them pay my bill? Talk about ripe for fraud.
I just found a new supply of forks!

+100 and you can get that info off of a regular check. This is insane if true.

All you need is to give your check to one person with bad intentions.  :(

FYI I've done this a few times.

Usually the payment goes through even though the checking account info doesn't match the cc info.

Recently I made a $750 payment, and after a few it got returned bec info didn't match.
Was with chase bank/citi credit card.
Don't know which end does the verification.

It's not like the bank doesn't know who you are all has all your info.

There is nothing they can do really with it. It's entirely traceable

Not arguing but thinking this out... So if you write me a check and I use that info to make a 1,000 payment to my credit card, what is anyone going to do about? You think my cc company will return your money if you complain?

Most probably not but you will get flagged for fraud and the bank will escalate it

Banks don't want to flag people for fraud - they want to avoid it altogether.

It may be entirely traceable but there are bad guys out there who dont seem to care.  They may take 25k from your bank and then skip country or whatever.  My bank was going to dispute it, but I wonder if it was a mistake who would have had to take the hit.  Unless they can actually get amex to just refund the money to my bank.

Why are you surprised? What info did you give your CC to pay from your bank account, and where did you get it from?

You bet!  And they'll shutdown all your cards and accounts with them.

I never paid my CC from ACH, but if I were to, I would've expected them to require the names to match. Gave my reasons why above.
