is there any way to erase the date stamp on a pic other than photoshopping or placing object over it?

And nope. I never understood why people would do that, the info is baked into the file anyway. Why slap something permanent and distracting on your photograph?

correct. after searching some answer boards it seems like google my photos does not support image embedding. will set up yahoo account for flickr and take that route

Thanks! I've been meaning to ask you (or maybe even not be lazy and actually figure it out myself  ) how to make the link on private photos work.

I've updated the original post to reflect some things that have changed in the last two and a half years:

- Sizes now work differently
- Photobucket no longer works as a host
- Flickr screenshots are updated to the current interface
- The process of embedding a private photo is now (somewhat) simplified
