Depending where you are going, that may or may not be the best time to go. Ushuaia will be very warm then (relative) and you can book a cruise from there to Antarctica, or you can see penguins on much closer islands too. Buenos Aires in our winter, very very hot! If you go a bit more north, probably decent weather. Though don't go to Manaus in the winter, unless you wan't to see the wonder of nonstop pouring rain for days or weeks at a time. Best time to go there is summer and early fall.
