One thing most young couples forget is to save money!! IY"H once you have kids there will be lots of expenses! It's nice to have a cushion not to mention if you ever want to buy a house. I'm not just talking about down payment, also repairs, furniture etc.
Unfortunately, for some of that are just making it, that's not really an option.

Agreed but it is something you should try to squeeze in even a little at a time. For someone who is just making it and then they have a major expense they can be in big trouble! I speak from experience.
