This doesn't give the right of calling me just because someone sold you my number
And not a smart idea saying in public that you did this ****
I never gave my support to the concept nor was I involved in such practice.
I did fundraise a few thousand dollars for an organization very close to my heart (you can PM me for the link
), and I observed many common practices and the how and why of them.
I'm just explaining that in today's world, people do what works for them. If they made more money by putting up a billboard with an ad or by putting a Pushka in a Shul, they would do that. Clearly, they find that this way they bring in more money.
Think about the average donor who (genuinely) doesn't want obsessive attention and thanks, at the end of the day (the organizations know), that after flattering, the donor feels better about himself, and there's a bigger chance of him donating again.
IOW, annoying tactics, work. And that's why they keep doing them.
Again, I haven't done this but I've "observed/studied" the idea a little.
Those telemarketers keep on waking me up in the middle of the night, because I am in a different time zone. Employer provided me with US number / TMobile and I am on call 24/6. And then the constant text messages to various charity campaigns. Blocking numbers doesn't help, as that always call/text each time from a different number.
