Why late hours if its freelance? Isn't freelance when you work your own hours?
I'm not who you think I am.

I have some questions regarding hiring someone so i will post it here.
My business is B"h growing and i am in need of an employee(for office work). This will be my first one.
Does anyone here have employees that work from home?
And do you pay less because of it?
do you feel the employee gets the same amount of work done?
TIA

Pay should not be less for a qualified person just b/c they work from home.
Unless it's someone who you've worked with and then they switch to working from home. You can never truly be sure how they spend their time. If they have a kid with them you can guarantee time will be spent on personal matters. You yourself will need to decide how your going to value the work. Some ppl say as long as the work is done I don't care if some time is waisted. Others want an account of every minute.
Also consider that taking on an employee is a big responsibility. Make sure your company is stable enough to handle that.

I have the means to pay for an employee. The question is how to start paying someone not hourly? What do i base the salary on? And as it gwts busier how do we calculate the assumed increase in hours? I just feel that an in house employee is so much simpler. I  know that i might find someone thats even more qualified just they want to work from home.

U should probably open a thread for this...

You could calculate an annual salary divided in half for a part time job. then give a raise when the hours increase.
Or you could stick with hourly which would be your safest route anyway. There are many things you can use to track hours and to make sure they are giving you the time needed.
All this kind of depends on what work your planning on having them do.

You are %100 correct. Why are you considering taking an employee that will not be on premises? I'm not saying that it won't work out but its definitely more complicated.

Just bear in mind that you will have to set hours that they will be working because it can get very tough on them if you ask them for even the simplest of tasks out of the 'regular' hours

Hiring someone that must come to work means that by baby  #2 or #3 you must look for a new employee.  And from home they can always work

In that case you start them on premises and if they are worth keeping you let them work from home. You're giving someone a lot of trust without even having a working relationship.

It's easier to have an employee that worked in your office as a team player, knows the ins and outs of what needs to be done, and eventually works from home, then to start with someone that never worked in your office.

That depends if you need them a available specific hours or is it as long as the job gets done.

Correct. If it is customer service, then this wouldn't work. Whereas, if it was writing product description then it would be fine
