I though the restrictions were just on transfers. If I buy the points from a plat cardholder and he books it, wouldn't that easily work out?

Yes, of course you can do that.
At 4,800+$90 you can get a steal in Venice and you'll very likely have a suite.

how about a paid rate with a one bed room on a plat do you thin they'd still upgrade ? I get a rate of 218 euro or $280

There is a Crowne plaza in Venice that has pretty good reviews on tripadvisor. If you have any PC free nights you can use those. If you dont have any, you can PM me and i might be able to help you out.

It's not in venice but its close to the train and I think has shuttle to the airport so it's a good option for a non shabbos stay.

r u going urself if not then this rate will not be good for u. i actually had this happen a friend of mine used my plat account to book 4 himself hebooked the rate online and when he called up2 add his own name to the res it doubled! in the end it worked out for him. im just givin u a heads up

I have my own platinum account so I dont need to put more than one name although I will not be going myself so I dont want to get stuck in a one double bed room.

u should be ok then. just double check that there are rooms with 2 beds available before u go and if u really want to be careful have ur wife wait outside/in the lobby while u check in urself

For anyone booking a rental car in Milan I found very resonable rates using Avis's Italian site with netjets/marquees AWD not 100% sure that it works but it's worth a try. Anyone have any tips for getting rid of underage in Europe
