« on: December 20, 2010, 05:20:07 PM »
my brother is trying to transfer starwood points from his wifes account to his account, and hes having alot of problems. They wont let him transfer, due to different address... they tried to change the address, and its changed on thier account.. and they still wont let them transfer... they did it on the phone and the agent said it will take 24 hours due to address change.. tried it again online and got an email saying address doesnt match- send in proof of address.....
anyone have any insight on this matter?
they said due to fraud.. they cant do it???

its not that hard to get proof of address ...if u get a bank statement with her name on it that usually counts....although it sounds like u should wait 24hrs for the address change to go through.

What miles do you need it to be transfered to?

If someone has this kind of mileage, maybe someone will lay it out.

Why transfer from one account to the other (unless you are then transferring to an airline)? Simply make the res out of the other ones account.

SPG rejecting transfer to family member
« Reply #7 on: March 13, 2011, 12:56:47 PM »
I just attempted to transfer Starwood points to a family member at the same address. First, I was told that it would take several days for the transfer to go through (while in the past, I know that they've done it for me while I was on the phone).  Then, several days later, I received the following email:

We are unable to fulfill your request to transfer Starpoints at this time. A change of residential address has recently occurred on one or both accounts.

To complete this transaction, we require proof of residency--in the form of one of the documents listed below--to be sent to us showing the residential address for the account(s) that were recently updated.

Please fax one (or more as needed) of the below documents to the Starwood Preferred Guest Program Services department at 519-633-3658 or you may scan your documents and email to us at internaltransfers@starwoodhotels.com.

1. Drivers License
2. Utility Bill
3. Household bill (must have name and address listed)
4. Voter's registration

Please be sure to list your full name, Starwood Preferred Guest account number and Ref # on the fax.

Has anyone had this experience as well?  Has the policy on transfers changed recently? Is there a length time that I would need to wait after an address change, before doing a transfer?

I would appreciate any insight that anyone might have on this issue.
Thank you.

I did a little digging, and it seems that Starwood changed their policy or level of scrutiny in November, and created an audit process, which analyzes the requested transfer for up to 5 days before it is approved or rejected.
But do they automatically approve it if both accounts have been at the same address for 30 days (or is there still a possibility that they'll require you to submit documentation/proof of residence)?  And is there any requirement that the two accountholders be related? I don't think their rules mention anything about a relative requirment.

Even after 30 days in most cases they demand proof, especially on bigger amounts.

Any idea what they are referring when they request a "household bill"?

They probably don't have enough for what they need in one account and need to merge...

I would think that's what "utility bill" refers to. "household bill" must be something different.

Any bill sent to that address.
Be creative.  It shouldn't be too hard.

Anyone know how long should I wait before switching the address on my SPG account back to mine after making a transfer?
